Today's "Weekend Mini-Challenge" on withrealtoads is on 'Cinquain'! Honestly Marian, you just introduced me to a new chapter in Poetry! Once again withrealtoads (last time hedgewitch introduced me to Chained Rhyme) has improved my knowledge in my passion, and I am so thankful to all of you.
Getting on with the post, it is important that I introduce my dear readers to what a 'Cinquain' is. "Cinq" in french means 5. So a 'Cinquain' is a form of poetry with 5 lines, having the syllable count structure as 2-4-6-8-2. It must have a:
Getting on with the post, it is important that I introduce my dear readers to what a 'Cinquain' is. "Cinq" in french means 5. So a 'Cinquain' is a form of poetry with 5 lines, having the syllable count structure as 2-4-6-8-2. It must have a:
- 'strong title' (for 'such a tight poem'),
- 'strong imagery' ('perhaps, even, an image per line'),
- 'juxtaposition, or a clever turn at the end'.
Marian has given us quite some delightful examples of her own 'Cinquain' work and some variations to the form. I quite liked the 'Butterfly Cinquain' : a 9 line verse with the syllable count pattern as 2-4-6-8-2-8-6-4-2. Thus, I have tried to perform a 'Butterfly' variation as best I can, for a Cinquain first!

Some thing
Worth cherishing
Is but for a moment:
For ever.

awww. love it, how whimsical and sweet. awwww!
ReplyDeletei dare you to keep writing them. they get under your skin, not in a bad way. :)
Ah I'm glad I could do some justice to your challenge! :) I do see the habit forming, though..eek! :D
DeleteWow, isn't that sad? And I agree, especially the mood of discouragement when a relationship meant to last does not. So stay with those loving friends . . . .
ReplyDeleteExactly. Things meant to last do not, and moods..they cling on to us. It really is sad.
DeleteSweet and lovely Chhavi...nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer! :)
DeleteThanks for your kind comment on my cinquain...I should clarify on this comment of mine. Sweet and lovely, and the 'sad irony' is told effectively...good work!
DeleteOh it's always lovely to read your poetry. Especially in the morning with my hot cup of coffee! You're one of the people on my 'Daily Newspaper' list. So, you're welcome! :)
DeleteThe ending is sad ~ Good work on the form ~
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteWhat a delightful presentation of these gems.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you used the images almost as words.
I myself loved using those images! It's as if this rule of a must have image or images has complimented lines of the poem. I think I'm going to use this rule more often! Thanks Aprille! :)
DeleteThis is lovely.
ReplyDeleteVerrrrrrrrrry nice indeed!!!
ReplyDelete:D Thanks Helen!!!
Deletewell executed cinquain..unique..
ReplyDeletebeautiful Chhavi
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. How creative to put images with the words. So sad when a relationship ends...yet parts of it continue to linger in the heart.
ReplyDeleteI know these images look fantabulous, we should all thank Marian for this idea. And yeah, that's the sad part because you don't intend to keep those nagging parts to linger.
DeleteThis has a haunting quality! I love it, but hope the sadness does not linger~ Oh, I see Susie said, linger, too...
ReplyDeleteTis true!
Well Done~
Yep :) Thanks Ella!
Deleteloved how you combined the images with your words (like Susie).. very beautiful
